A major thunderstorm destroyed two ship-to-shore container cranes at Jacksonville’s Blount Island Marine Terminal on Wednesday, August 13. A third crane was damaged; the Jackonsville Port Authority is assessing the damage.
Nancy Rubin, a port authority spokeswoman, says the cranes collapsed Wednesday afternoon, temporarily shutting down all incoming water traffic in Jacksonville’s harbor.
Rubin says no one was operating the cranes at the time.
