VOTE NO on Contract Extension Proposal on 11/17 *We Need More Than Talk, We Need Action!*

We Need More Than Talk, We Need Action!
VOTE NO on Contract Extension Proposal on 11/17
The ILA & USMX tried to take away our October wage increase. The LWC won it back.
The ILA says waiting nine years for top pay is good. The LWC says we need a real wage bridge.
The ILA & USMX refuse to address technology adequately. The LWC says we need to save our jobs.
Who are you going to trust? The ILA is silent on the contract extension proposal details. ILA rank-and-file members call the LWC the “CNN of the longshore industry.”
Ask Yourself: Can I Count On This?
* Top pay in 2012? The USMX-ILA tried to take away our 2009 $1.50 increase. What makes you think the USMX will willingly pay approximately $10/hour just six months before the extension expires? And will the ILA will fight for us then?
* Higher royalty payments in the next few years? Yes, the cap will be lifted under this proposal. But tonnage will be down for the next few years and the royalty fund is being used to pay for 2009 wage increase.
* Secure benefits? Health care benefits, pension, vacation, dental and vision plans may see cuts before next contract because funding will be frozen under this proposal.
* Will I have job security? Labor-saving technology is here and there is no strong language in the proposed contract to protect our jobs.
Vote No to An Early Deal. Make ILA & USMX Put a Better Offer On The Table.
A vote no will not result in a strike because the current contract does not expire until Sept 30, 2010.

The ILA has laid out it’s plan and provides information on it’s website on the new contract…what’s the LWC stance on these issues?
