Hey USMX: Hands Off Our Cookie Jar! It’s Time to Stop This Game!
LWC, 2010 ILA Master Contract: End the wage and benefit tier, News - - Posted on November, 10 at 11:29 am
New flyer from the LWC. Please download, print out and circulate on the job!
Hey USMX: Hands Off Our Cookie Jar! We need a real wage bridge, not theft of our benefits.
The proposed contract extension would:
* Give back over $57 million to the employers in the first year of our contract.
* Take more than $50 million a year from MILA.
* Freeze funding for current benefits such as pensions, disability, vacation and holiday, life insurance.
* Deny job security by failing to protect ILA members from technology.
Why the ILA wants you to vote yes:
The International is going bankrupt and will do anything to keep paying bloated salaries and pensions.
Last year ILA President Richard Hughes tried to take $1. 23 million from our treasury but was forced to pay most of it back by the US Department of Labor. There are 32 International Officers and staffers that took home more than $31 million from our treasury.
They need the 10% from your royalty check to keep their gravy train running.
Don’t Believe Their Half-Truths
1) They say: If you reject this contract and ask for more, we will lose work to a cheaper port.
Truth: Shippers will not permanently reroute cargo based on negotiations, especially with the Panama Canal expansion in 2014. They made the same phony threat in 2003. The longshore unions represent all major container ports in the United States, and the purpose of the Master Contract is to prevent undercutting and whipsawing port to port.
2) They say: If you reject this contract you will have to go on strike and lose everything.
Truth: Our contact does not expire for another year. If we vote no, we go back to the table. The LWC got delegates to vote no once and we kept our 2009 raise. There’s plenty of time to negotiate a fair agreement.
3) They say: You should feel lucky to have a job, so don’t ask for more.
Truth: The expansion of the Panama Canal will bring more work to the East and Gulf Coast. We must defend good jobs NOW or we’ll be weak when the industry profits.
VOTE NO ON 11/17!
