Know Your Rights: every vote should count on 11/17

The ILA has outlined the rules and procedures for the vote on November 17. Your local should announce the location and the vote will be conducted from 7am to 7pm.

How do I know if I am eligible to vote?
You are eligible to vote if you have paid your dues through September 30, 2009. You have up to and including November 17 to pay up your dues.

What if I think I am eligible but I am not on the list?
You have the right to insist on your right to vote and you also have a right to verify the list. If there continues to be a question about your eligibility, you have the right to vote a challenge ballot and it will get counted later.

I am feeling pressured to vote yes. What can I do?
You have the right to vote without being observed. Your vote is secret; no one will know how you vote. Mark your vote clearly so it doesn’t get challenged. You also have the right to place your vote in the ballot box yourself. There is no campaigning allowed in the polling area and you can protest it.

I am worried about how the vote is being conducted in my local. What can I do?
Any member in good standing in your local has the right to observe the vote; each local union will appoint observers. Please consider becoming an observer. Contact the LWC at 718-865-8782 for additional support, including training on your rights as a voting observer. And inform the LWC immediately of any suspected voting irregularities as they are happening.
